I know you wanna kiss my grits!!!! :-*

I've never liked grits until the last couple of years. If you're not big on grits either - then you have to give this recipe a try! You will become a grit-lover too!!! I promise!!!

Grits-n-Sausage Casserole

3 cups water
1 cup quick-cooking grits
3/4 tsp salt, divided
2 lbs. bulk pork sausage, cooked and drained
2 cups (8 ounces) shredded cheddar cheese, divided
3 eggs
1-1/2 cups milk
2 tablespoons butter, melted
Pepper to taste

In a saucepan, bring water to a boil. Slowly whisk in the grits and 1/2 teaspoon salt. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. In a large bowl, combine grits, sausage and 1-1/2 cups cheese. Beat the eggs and milk; stir into grits mixture. Add the butter, pepper and remaining salt. Transfer to a greased 13-in. x 9-in. baking dish. Bake, uncovered, at 350° for 1 hour or until a knife inserted near the center comes out clean. Sprinkle with remaining cheese; bake 15 minutes longer or until cheese is melted. Let stand for 5 minutes before cutting.
Yield:
10-12 servings

* we halved this recipe and used 2 eggs and it turned out great!

I've never tried grits. This sounds wonderful! What section are the grits in in the grocery store?

You don't have to convince me any. I LOVE grits. Adding sausage and cheese sounds like an awesome way to indulge in breakfast :D

This DOES sound good. Good to see a post using grits, as they are not a common foodstuff here, so my knowledge about how to cook grits is very limited. Thank you for sharing this.

Heidi, the grits are usually on the cereal isle - somewhere near the oatmeal and instant breakfast. Let me know how you like it!

Katy - I've only made grits twice! If I can do it, I know you can!!!

Kim, I used to be a picky eater and the thought of the texture freaked me out. Then the one time I had it, it was very bland so that did me in. Knowing that I was from the South and not a grit-lover used to upset me, until I found the right recipe!!! A few weeks ago I had cheese grits for the first time and fell in love!!! My 13 year old said the other day - grits, those are for old people!!! He ate every last bite though!!! Too funny!!! He must be very mature for his age!!! ;)

I like grits, but I don't love them. Maybe this recipe will change my mind and tastebuds!

I have seen grits mentioned in lots of movies, but never actually seen them. I like the sound and idea of them though. Sort of like Polenta.
