for the BEST CORN ON THE COB EVER!!!! I found it over on Feasting Friends. Missy found a new technique that will give you that "sweet taste" every time you make corn on the cob. The secret is just adding a few simple ingredients to your water!!! For years I've been boiling my corn in just plain ol' water! She says that if you try it this way - you'll never go back to just plain water ever again!!! I can't wait to put some corn on my menu for this next week!!! How 'bout you? What's your secret to making sweet corn?
4 ears of corn
water (enough to cover the corn)
3/4 cup Heavy cream (or substitute with milk)
2-3 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons butter (optional and to add to the water)
Fill a large stock pot with enough water to cover the corn. Add milk, sugar and butter. Stir to mix. Bring to a boil, then add corn cobs. Reduce heat to a simmer and cook for about 8 minutes, or until just tender. Do not over cook or the corn will become tough. Also, never salt the water, as it also toughens the corn.
Using long tongs remove and place on a plate or in a bowl, then cover with foil until ready to serve. Enjoy!

Umm this sounds really good and a very different way to make it. Now I am excited about this as well. Right now since it is so hot still in TX. we are still grilling corn, but I will be sure to keep this in mind when i cook corn on the stove.
I've used sugar water for years. I'll have to try adding milk. Thanks so much for passing this on to us.
genius! why didn't I think of that?
Sounds wonderful!
I made your Bubble Pizza for dinner last night. It was a hit! I didn't see that I was supposed to add the cheese later and I just threw it all together. I had to cook it for 40 minutes for some reason. The end result was yummy though! :0)
Kim, I'm so glad you liked it. I usually just throw it all together too!
Thanks Tina, Mary, and Monica! You'll have to let me know how you like it - if you get to it first!!!
Thank you!!! Corn on the cob seems to be hit or miss when I get it from the Farmer's Market, I can't wait to try making it this way!
I agree Carrie, let me know how it goes!!!
i haven't tried this before. I can't wait, this sounds soooooooo good!
I've used milk but never added sugar. I can absolutely see that working. I'll bet it adds just a nice sweetness that the corn loses after being picked. Love it!
Thanks ladies! I agree Katy! Katherine, I can't wait to try it too!!! It's on my menu - I just need to get to the store!!! I'll keep you posted! :o)
Wow, that is really different. I used to boil my corn in plain water also for years. Then my sister told me about adding sugar. I'll have to try it this way as well. Lately, I've been grilling corn which is really good.
Yeah, we love grilled corn too!
Well, I finally made this recipe. I do like the added sugar, but didn't really feel like the cream did anything?! So, if you didn't have it on hand - no problem!
